O conteúdo visa analisar o valor aportado pelo diagnóstico e prognóstico com recurso à procalcitonina em sintomas de sepsis, e a sua utilidade na terapia a aplicar ao paciente em comparação com outros métodos, como a hemocultura ou a PCR. Também enfocar-se-ão as temáticas do máximo tempo de resposta (TAT) aceitável para os resultados e do intervalo de medição. Em suma discutir-se-á a real necessidade da PCT como teste POCT.
